Brief: Design a protective cover to prevent cylinder head damage
Client: Pier City Custom
Pier City Custom is Rory and Stu, a couple of motorcycle customisation enthusiasts based on the South Coast of the UK. Specialising in the BMW brand and in particular the R nine T range, they approached DeftCAD for assistance in developing a product. Fast road and track day riders may find the cylinder head covers of their bikes make contact with the ground as lean angles increase, which can lead to costly repairs and dangerous oil leaks. Using a standard part as a basis, PCC wanted to develop a product with extensions and additional material to protect these covers.
We scanned the standard part, reverse engineered it to obtain a solid model then made additions as requested. We then 3D printed the prototype, which was fully tested by Stu on his personal track bike at Snetterton. Following this, PCC were able to request some further changes and are now looking to manufacture the product for general sale.
